As we are nearing Labor Day, two summer flavors are joining together. What flavors you may ask? Well two summer favorites; hot dogs and popsicles. No I am not kidding. You read that right!

Oscar Mayer is selling its first-ever “Cold Dog,” a frozen popsicle that tastes like the brand’s hot wiener. Apparently it is said to taste like a smoky hot dog straight off the grill, topped with a swirl of mustard.

Why?!

The idea grew from an Instagram post on Oscar Mayer’s social media account months ago. They took a poll and followers voted it a “genius” idea.

Really? Really.

“After the overwhelming fan excitement for our beloved Cold Dog, it was a no-brainer to make this hot dog-inspired frozen pop a reality,” said Anne Field, an Oscar Mayer spokesperson, in a press release.

But don’t get too excited yet. This new popsicle wiener is only available in some areas. The “Cold Dog” is now on sale for $2 at select Popbar locations in Long Beach, New York City, New Orleans and Alpharetta, Georgia, while supplies last. Popbar is a chain of gelato shops that helped Oscar Meyer make this unusual flavor.

Oscar Mayer, owned by Kraft Heinz (KHC), is used to making people curious with their unusual product marketing. Earlier this year it sold a bologna face mask that quickly sold out on Amazon. Hmm…

With the much needed trend of healthy eating taking the US by storm, the bologna company had to do something ingenious to attract attention back to processed food.
But is this going too far?

I am sorry Denverites, you may miss out on this soon to be summer staple. Perhaps in your travels you’ll get a chance to sample this popsicle; or maybe Amazon will deliver your hot dog and popsicle fix, all at once.
