Meet the ‘Frost Fleet’: Fort Collins Snowplows Named by Local Schoolkids

In a fun collaboration with the Poudre School District, the City of Fort Collins invited schoolchildren to name six of its snowplows. Known as the “Frost Fleet,” these snow-clearing titans have been given playful, “snowy” monikers, each reflecting the might and personality of the vehicles that brave Colorado’s winter storms.

Starting with over 120 submissions, the list was narrowed to 20 top contenders, with the final six chosen by the plow drivers themselves. The names bring a touch of creativity and fun, allowing kids to spot their chosen snowplows in action throughout the season. Here’s the Frost Fleet lineup for the 2024-2025 winter season:

  • THE ABOMINABLE SNOW MONSTER
This plow’s monstrous passion for clearing snow is as impressive as its bulging “muscles.”

  • SNOWBACCA
A legendary snow remover from a faraway galaxy, Snowbacca’s fame in snow-clearing is intergalactic.

  • SNOWZILLA
A kaiju from another dimension, Snowzilla uses atomic breath to melt ice and snow, when she’s not leveling cities with friends.

  • THE BLIZZARD OF OZ
A mystical sorcerer who makes winter vanish with ease, clearing streets of snow and ice.

  • LARRY THE SNOW CZAR
The Frost Fleet’s leader, Larry the Snow Czar, ensures this elite crew is always ready to tackle the toughest storms.

  • SCOOP DOG
The “chill” member of the Frost Fleet, Scoop Dog keeps neighborhoods safe and snow-free, one street at a time.

These uniquely named plows will make winter a bit more exciting for Fort Collins residents, especially the kids who helped name them!
