How Much Does the Average Coloradan Make Per Hour in 2025? The Answer Might Surprise You

With Colorado’s soaring cost of living, many residents are wondering: Am I making enough to keep up? The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics recently released new wage data for April 2025, and the numbers shed light on how Colorado stacks up compared to the rest of the country—and whether the average paycheck is keeping pace with rising expenses.

According to the data, the average hourly wage in Colorado is $39.10, placing the state among the top earners nationally. When you break that down to a full-time, 40-hour work week, that comes out to just over $81,000 per year. It’s important to note that this average includes workers across all industries and occupations, from entry-level service jobs to high-paying tech and medical careers.

Despite the relatively high wages, Colorado’s cost of living remains a serious concern. The average annual cost of living in the state now exceeds $50,000, and housing continues to be the biggest financial burden for many residents. Whether renting or buying, living in Colorado is estimated to be 20% more expensive than the national average. This makes it increasingly difficult for middle-class residents to stay afloat—especially in high-demand metro areas like Denver, Boulder, and Fort Collins.

Meanwhile, wage inequality is evident. The top 10% of earners in Colorado pull in more than $282,000 annually, a stark contrast to the struggles many working-class families face as they try to balance expenses with modest wages.

As Colorado continues to grow and attract new residents, the challenge for policymakers will be ensuring that wages rise in step with the cost of living—because for many, even $39.10 an hour doesn’t go as far as it used to.
