If you’re looking for a thrilling outdoor adventure, try taking a haunted hike in Colorado.

There are many trails throughout the state that are rumored to be home to ghosts and other paranormal activity. Here are five of the most haunted hikes in Colorado:

Alta Ghost Town OHV Trail

This trail leads to the ruins of an abandoned mining town. Hikers have reported seeing ghostly figures and hearing strange noises in the area. This 10 mile trail is out and back near Telluride, Colorado.

“This trail is great for off-road driving, and it’s unlikely you’ll encounter many other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are May through October,” says the website.

Black Forest Loop

This trail is a 2.2 mile loop, with winds through a dense forest that is said to be haunted by the spirits of Native Americans and miners. Hikers have reported hearing voices and seeing apparitions on this trail.

According to Westword “in October 1995, a crew from the paranormal show Sightings visited the home, capturing similar disturbing occurrences. A medium present during filming confirmed that multiple spirits reside on the property.”

Carter Lake Sundance Trail

“Locals say that the area is home to the ghost of “Mr. Bennet,” a settler who was shot and killed more than 100 years ago. Witnesses have seen a man wearing old-fashioned clothes carrying a bag who disappears when you come too close,” says 303 Magazine.

Gold Camp Road

This gravel road is said to be haunted by the ghosts of miners and stagecoach passengers who were killed along the way. Hikers have reported seeing phantom headlights and hearing horses whinnying. Its over 8 miles long and waiting to be explored.

Helen Hunt Falls

This popular waterfall is said to be haunted by the ghost of Helen Hunt, a poet and activist who was buried nearby. Hikers have reported hearing her voice and seeing her spirit at the falls.

If you’re brave enough to venture onto one of these haunted hikes, be sure to bring a flashlight and other ghost hunting equipment. And be respectful of the environment and the spirits who may be there.
