It May Snow In The Mountains Next Week…

Well, just a week or so ago we were sweating out of our much anticipated fall outfits. I mean, those flannels were just teasing us in the midst of 90 degree heat waves. The 90 degree days seemed to go on forever and ever. Especially if you are a fall fanatic like me.

But, word around the weather stations is that snow may finally be coming to the mountains. Now depending on your love of winter, that could be a good thing or a bad thing. Colorado seems to be split into two opposing teams; Team Winter and Team Summer. I personally am Team Mild Weather, aka Team Autumn.

So, will it actually snow a decent amount in the mountains in October?
We have seen a few dustings at or above 11,000 feet in elevation, and a bit of snow on the high peaks, but there hasn’t been any heavy snowfall so far this season. But, next week, we just may see those postcard views in the skyline.

It is a little ways out, but I know the snow-lovers are rooting for snowfall. So far, the snow looks to impact the mountains for the midweek to end of week. Whether or not the snow arrives as anticipated, the cooler weather will certainly be making its way to us. So to those lucky mountain dwellers, get your shovels ready!

As far as the Front Range and Denver is concerned, it may be a little bit longer before we get more than a dusting of snow. That seems to be on schedule for our first measurable snowfall of the season. Keep in mind that we have seen measurable snowfall in Denver on or before October 10 in four of the past five years.

So it’s possible but not a promise.

I am okay with this. Neither myself or my tires are ready for Denver traffic in the snow.
