The Man Behind Rocky: 33 Years of High-Flying Stunts and Unbreakable Spirit

For over three decades, Kenn Solomon was the heart and soul behind Rocky, the Denver Nuggets’ beloved and fearless mascot. From his debut on December 15, 1990, to the team’s championship game in 2023, Solomon wowed fans with daring stunts and electrifying energy, redefining what a mascot could be. His gravity-defying performances included half-court shots from a 30-foot ladder, acrobatics on stilts, and even leaping off basketball rims, often testing the limits of safety. But while fans saw the thrill and excitement, behind the scenes, Solomon endured broken bones, illness, and severe injuries, including a shattered heel and a broken back, pushing through pain to keep the crowd entertained.

Beyond the physical toll, Solomon revealed in an interview with 9NEWS that Rocky was more than just a mascot—it was a lifeline. Struggling with depression and personal hardships, he credits the character with saving his life. “Without Rocky, I may not be here,” he admitted, explaining that the joy he brought to fans also helped him find purpose and strength. Through it all, the Nuggets organization stood by him, offering support that extended beyond the court. For Solomon, the most rewarding moments of his career were sharing the experience with his own children, who grew up alongside him on the Nuggets’ home floor.

From his terrifying first game, where he rappelled into the arena, to becoming one of professional sports’ most iconic mascots, Solomon’s legacy as the original Rocky remains unmatched. When reflecting on his time in costume, he had one heartfelt message for fans: “Thank you for letting me do what I do. It was an incredible ride.”
