Denver Metro Grocery Stores Slammed in National Ranking for Poor Service and Low Ratings
Denver’s grocery store scene is taking a national hit, with three locations ranked among the top 10 worst in the country and six total landing in the top 50, according to a 2024 report by Solitaired analyzing Google reviews from 3,000 stores across 100 U.S. cities. Compared to last year, where only one Denver address landed in the bottom 10, the city now claims two spots, while Aurora dropped from three to one. Negative reviews highlighted poor customer service, with Denver earning the unwanted title of having the highest frequency of complaints about unprofessional behavior and long lines.
The worst-rated grocery stores in the metro area include the King Soopers on Green Valley Ranch Blvd. (No. 2) and Safeway on East 20th Ave. (No. 7), while a Kroger (identified as a Walmart on Exposition Way in Aurora) ranks No. 3. Denver also dominated the list for worst customer service with King Soopers locations on Quebec Street, Speer Blvd., Chestnut Place, and Green Valley Ranch Boulevard all making the top 10. Safeway on South Downing Street rounded out the local list at No. 10.
Despite the bad press, there was one bright spot: Denver Central Market on Larimer Street earned a 4.7-star rating and ranked as the 14th best grocery store in the nation—Colorado’s only store to break into the top 50 best list.
