Verizon Experiences ‘Nationwide Outage,’ Impacting Thousands of Users

On Monday, Verizon users across the U.S. were hit by a widespread service outage, leaving many without cellphone or internet access. Reports of issues flooded Downdetector.com, peaking at over 100,000 outage complaints around 11 a.m. ET, with numbers slightly decreasing by the afternoon. Customers reported no signal, slow internet speeds, and some phones stuck in “SOS mode,” meaning they couldn’t connect to the cellular network but could still make emergency calls.

Verizon confirmed that it was aware of the problem and had engineers working to fix the issue. While the exact cause wasn’t immediately provided, some outages appeared to be linked to areas affected by Hurricane Helene, which struck parts of the Southeast, causing damage across several states including Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina.

The outage also affected users in areas outside the storm’s path, sparking frustrations as they shared their experiences on social media. While Verizon worked on restoring services, they advised customers to use Wi-Fi for calling where possible, and emergency calls remained available through other networks.

AT&T and T-Mobile users also experienced outages, though Verizon seemed to be the most impacted during the event.
