Denver Police Unveil High-Tech Robot Dog for Bomb and SWAT Operations

The Denver Police Department has introduced a cutting-edge robotic “dog” to assist in bomb scares and SWAT operations, enhancing officer and public safety through advanced technology.

This remote-controlled robot is designed to tackle high-risk scenarios with its innovative features. Equipped with legs capable of navigating stairs and recovering from falls, cameras for surveillance, communication tools, and an arm that can open doors and lift objects, the robot is set to revolutionize emergency responses.

“The Denver Police Department is thrilled to have this tool to increase officer safety by utilizing the robot to enter into potentially life-ending situations – protecting the lives of our community and our officers,” said Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas. “This new robot also demonstrates our commitment to leveraging technology to provide public safety services in innovative ways.”

The $328,000 robot, funded by grants from the Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) and the North Central All-Hazards Region (NCR) of Colorado, will serve multiple purposes. It will inspect and remove suspicious or explosive items, conduct preliminary searches of buildings after obtaining search warrants, and assess areas with potential hazardous materials.

With this addition, Denver Police are taking a significant step forward in utilizing technology to enhance operational efficiency and safety in critical situations.
