Near-Miss Incident: Small Plane Almost Crashes into Devil’s Thumb on Independence Day

DENVER — A small plane narrowly avoided a crash into Devil’s Thumb on the Fourth of July, an incident dramatically captured on video by a nearby hiker.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that the single-engine Cessna 152 experienced a stall and began descending dangerously close to Devil’s Thumb, Colorado, at approximately 12:30 p.m. Despite the harrowing moment, the aircraft managed to land safely at its intended destination.

The FAA is actively investigating the incident to determine the cause of the stall and any potential safety violations. As of now, the number of individuals on board the plane remains unknown.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as terrifying, with the plane appearing to come within mere feet of the rocky outcrop before regaining control. The video footage, which has since gone viral, shows the plane’s precarious descent and the audible gasps of onlookers.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the inherent risks of aviation and the importance of maintaining strict safety protocols. While the pilot’s skill in averting disaster is commendable, the FAA’s investigation will seek to uncover any factors that contributed to the near-miss to prevent future occurrences.

Stay tuned for updates as more information becomes available about this dramatic Independence Day incident.
