Protest Alert: Aurora Braces for Potential Chaos This Weekend

The Aurora Police Department is closely monitoring the potential for a protest this weekend. On Tuesday, they posted on X, acknowledging that they are aware of calls for an “international day of protest” related to the Venezuelan presidential election results from July 28.

In that election, Venezuela’s opposition and President Nicolas Maduro’s government both claimed victory, leading to a high-stakes standoff. On August 1, the U.S. government recognized opposition candidate Edmundo González as the winner, challenging the results that had declared Maduro the victor.

Previously, on the night of the election, Aurora police were called to monitor a large gathering at Havana Street and Mississippi Avenue. With the possibility of another gathering tied to the international protest, police have stated they will continue to monitor the situation. As of now, no gathering has been confirmed in Aurora.

“We want our community to know we are actively monitoring the situation due to recent events in our city,” Aurora police posted on X. The department will provide updates and communicate with the community if any gatherings are planned. They encourage community members to follow their social media channels for the latest information.
