Shoplifting Suspect With Nine Warrants Arrested After Sprint Through Westminster Store

A suspected shoplifter’s attempt to run from police didn’t end the way he hoped this week at Orchard Town Center in Westminster.

According to Westminster Police, officers responded to a store after employees reported a suspicious man who was already known to staff for past shoplifting incidents. Workers told police the man was filling a cart with merchandise when officers arrived to investigate.

When officers attempted to make contact, the 43-year-old suspect bolted through the store and sprinted out a back emergency exit in an attempt to escape.

The getaway didn’t last long.

Police quickly caught up with the man and discovered he already had nine active warrants for his arrest, including six felony warrants. He was taken into custody and transported to the Adams County Jail.

To make matters worse for the suspect, officers also discovered drugs in his possession, which added even more charges to the list.

While it may have been a bad day for the suspect, police say it was a win for local businesses that have been dealing with repeated shoplifting issues in the area.

Westminster Police shared the incident as another example of how routine calls can quickly lead to the arrest of repeat offenders.
