Since 1984, the heritage of American Indians has been celebrated in Denver

Every year since 1984 nearly a hundred native nations from around the country and several Canadian provinces gather in Denver for one of the countries biggest Pow Wows. The tribes come together for an event filled with dancing , singing , storytelling food and art. The term stems from the Narragansett word powwaw , meaning “spiritual leader.” Native American dancing has a variety of styles and meaning. Originally dancing is a form of storytelling depicting actions of battle and hunts. The dances are performed by individuals wearing elaborate traditional headdresses and clothing made of various animal hides , feathers and bones. Beaded chokers , armbands and anklets along with bells finish the amazing outfits. In addition to the wonderful dances and storytelling there are numerous vendors where attendees can purchase art and food to add to the enjoyment of the festivities. Celebrate and honor Native American cultures at this annual event at the Denver Coliseum its a wonderful experience for everybody. Due to covid 19 the 2021 Pow Wow is hopefully postponed til a later date however if it is cancelled the 2022 event is expected to return at is regular scheduled time in March.
