Spirit Airlines announced it will no longer provide flights in or out of Denver International Airport starting Jan. 9, 2024.

A press release issued by a spokesperson with the airline said:

As we continue to learn more about how Pratt & Whitney’s GTF engine availability impacts our fleet and operations, we’re forced to make some tough choices. After considering those constraints and the underperformance of our routes through Denver International Airport (DEN), we’ve made the difficult decision to discontinue service at the airport, effective Jan. 9, 2024. We apologize to our Guests for any inconvenience and will offer refunds to those with reservations after this date. Thank you to Denver’s Department of Aviation for their partnership and support over the years.

Spirit Airlines isn’t the first this year to limit their number of flights and or locations.

“Earlier this week, JetBlue Airways announced that it was cutting 10 flights out of New York and Boston and stopping all service out of Vermont’s Burlington International Airport,” says The Street.

While Spirit pulls out of major cities, they’re also in a battle with JetBlue, who’s putting in a bid to purchase the airlines. While some might think the merger is a good idea, others don’t think so.

“Consumers are better off with an independent Spirit, not a JetBlue intent on removing seats from planes and charging higher fares,” says The Justice Department per KDVR.
