Aurora Neighbors Frustrated by Loud Car Gatherings and Street Racing

Residents in Aurora have been dealing with loud gatherings, street racing, and roaring engines for months, but now they say there’s a new disturbance in town. Since mid-summer, around 50 cars have been gathering in a parking lot near East Iliff Avenue and South Havana Street, close to several restaurants and the Stampede music venue.

While neighbors clarify that the gatherings aren’t linked to the venue or local restaurants, they’ve noticed that every weekend—and sometimes as often as four nights a week—the parking lot fills up with cars blasting music that can be heard for miles.

“I live about three miles away, and I can hear the bass thumping,” said one Aurora resident, who chose to remain anonymous. “I feel bad for people who live nearby. When I pulled over here, the noise was extremely loud.”

In addition to the music, there have been other unsettling noises. “We’ve heard gunshots and other loud noises,” the resident added, describing a chaotic mix of sounds.

On Sunday night, he recorded video of one of the gatherings being dispersed by Aurora Police. “These were adults,” he noted. “I was stared down, and I probably shouldn’t have been there. But this is a recurring issue that happens over and over.”

Other residents share similar frustrations. Nora Killingsworth, who lives nearby, expressed how the noise is disrupting her already sleepless nights with her two-month-old. “I’m not getting much sleep as it is, and now I’m not sleeping at all,” she said.

The gatherings don’t always stay in one place. Neighbors report that the groups sometimes travel around the area, blasting their music as they move. “It gets louder, then softer, so we think it’s moving,” said Brenda Lang.

One resident, Lorie Rowe, recounted how the noise continued long after the music stopped when a group gathered in a nearby park. “I thought it was finally over, but then I heard cars and motorcycles tearing through the neighborhood for another 20 minutes,” she said.

Aurora Police confirmed they’ve made five arrests in the area in 2024 and have placed the location under watch. However, none of these arrests have been related to noise complaints.
