Man Caught on Camera Smashing Windows at Popular Denver Ice Cream Shop
A popular Denver ice cream shop is cleaning up after surveillance cameras captured a man throwing rocks at the business early Friday morning.
Video from Nuggs Ice Cream shows a man wearing a purple shirt walking into the parking lot before hurling a rock toward the building. After the first attempt failed to break the glass, he reportedly tried again, sending another rock through a glass door. The footage then shows him retrieving the first rock and preparing to throw it again.
Nuggs co-owner Nick O’Sullivan said the damage was frustrating and upsetting, especially after the amount of work his family has put into the business. O’Sullivan and his brother opened the shop near East Colfax Avenue and Filbert Court about 12 years ago.
O’Sullivan does not believe Nuggs was specifically targeted and suspects the vandalism was a random act. He also said other businesses along Colfax experienced similar damage Friday.
Nothing was reported stolen, and despite the broken glass, Nuggs has remained open. O’Sullivan said customers quickly showed their support, with people calling, stopping by and keeping the shop busy following the incident.
The building’s landlord is working with insurance to replace the damaged glass, which O’Sullivan hopes will be repaired within the next week.
Police are searching for the person responsible.
