Thornton Police Searching for Suspect in Attempted Abduction Near Middle School

Thornton Police are actively searching for a man accused of attempting to abduct a teenage girl near Thornton Middle School on Monday morning. The disturbing incident unfolded around 11:20 a.m. when a 15-year-old girl was walking near the school, located in the 9400 block of Dorothy Blvd, when a man approached her and attempted to grab her.

According to investigators, the girl fought back and was able to break free before the suspect fled the area. She was not physically harmed in the incident.

The attempted abduction was not reported until later in the day. School resource officers were first notified just before 4 p.m., and an immediate investigation was launched. Detectives reviewed surveillance video that captured the incident and later released a photo of the suspect to the public in hopes of identifying him.

The suspect is described as a white male with blonde hair, approximately 5 feet 8 to 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a slim to medium build. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored long-sleeve shirt, blue jeans, white shoes, and glasses. He was also carrying a black backpack. Police believe he may be connected to a red sedan with a white rear bumper.

The Thornton Police Department is working closely with Adams 12 Five Star Schools to ensure the safety of students and staff during the ongoing investigation. School officials and law enforcement are urging families to review safety protocols and take extra precautions.

Tips for student safety include:

  • Walk in groups, especially to and from school.

  • Report any suspicious people or vehicles immediately.

  • Stick to well-lit and familiar routes.

  • Avoid engaging with unknown individuals.

  • If you feel unsafe, seek help from a trusted adult or contact 911.

Thornton Police are asking anyone who may have information about the suspect or the attempted abduction to come forward. Witnesses or tipsters can call the department’s tip line at 720-977-5069. Those who wish to remain anonymous can reach out to Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
