It’s back to school for many parents and children across the country. Many of us are running late, trying to get into the groove of going back to school. It’s a juggling game for many families, going from the lazy days of summer to the oftentimes chaotic fall months. For one family, their morning routine was extra crazy with the addition of an alligator in the driveway.

On Tuesday, in Missouri City, Texas, Mike Trinh was preparing to take his daughter to the first day of missile school. The girl went to the car prepared for the morning ride to school when she suddenly ran back inside to tell her dad there was an alligator in the driveway. Trinh tried calling authorities for help, but was unable to locate any assistance. So, he decided to take care of the problem himself.

After watching many “Crocodile Hunter” episodes, Mike thought maybe he could handle this himself. He recalled Steve Irwin of “Crocodile Hunter” putting towels over the heads of alligators to calm them down. Trinh attempted this tactic and after several tries was successful. This calmed the gator enough to let him get to his car and drive his daughter to school.

When Trinh returned, he and his 19 year old daughter teamed up to get the alligator into submission to relocate it safely. He put the gator in a headlock while the daughter duct-taped towels over the gators mouth. Then he and a friend put the creature into a truck, drove it to a pond, removed the tape and towels and released it into the wild. His eldest daughter recorded the entire ordeal.

Upon being released the alligator hissed but did not do anything aggressive further. Seems the gator preferred the pond over Trinh’s driveway. I’m sure the alligator was happy to be off the hot pavement in the middle of a Texas summer.

So, all in all, the gator was content with its relocation. The daughter started middle school with a memorable first day, and Mike Trinh can cross alligator wrestling off his bucket list.
