Toys ‘R’ Us Makes a Big Return With New Colorado Store and Arcade Experience
Toys ‘R’ Us is continuing its comeback with the opening of a brand-new store in Thornton, bringing classic toy nostalgia back to Colorado. The retailer celebrated its grand opening on Saturday at the Denver Premium Outlets, unveiling a 10,000-square-foot location at 13801 Grant St., right next to Old Navy.
This new store is part of the company’s nationwide expansion plan, which includes launching 10 flagship stores and 20 holiday pop-up shops by year’s end. The Thornton location, operated by Go! Retail Group, features a wide selection of beloved brands such as LEGO, Barbie, Hot Wheels, NERF, and Paw Patrol.
One of the biggest draws is the addition of a mini-arcade area, complete with claw machines and Japan-inspired gashapon capsule machines, including authentic Tomy Gacha units — something the company says is a first for its Colorado stores.
After filing for bankruptcy in 2017 and undergoing liquidation, Toys ‘R’ Us was acquired by WHP Global in 2021. Since then, the new ownership has been aggressively rebuilding the brand. The company has already launched major flagship stores at American Dream in New Jersey and Mall of America in Minnesota, along with locations in Chicago, Texas, and even a dedicated shop inside Dallas Fort Worth Airport.
The Thornton store marks another step in the brand’s full-scale return to American retail — and Colorado shoppers now get to be part of the revival.
