Shocking Moment Lightning Hits Aurora Tree and Sends Wood Everywhere
A lightning strike turned into a shocking scene in an Aurora neighborhood Sunday night when a tree was hit and appeared to explode, sending chunks of wood flying into nearby homes. The strike happened around 7:30 p.m. near the Meadowood area, lighting up the sky before debris scattered across yards, streets, and rooftops.
Neighbors described a loud, near-instant blast, with large pieces of the tree crashing into fences and even punching into the side of a home. Some residents also reported damage to solar panels and yards littered with splintered wood.
Cleanup took hours as neighbors and firefighters worked to clear the area, but thankfully no injuries were reported and no fires were sparked. As FOX31 Denver reported, residents say the damage could have been far worse if the lightning had struck just a few feet in a different direction.
