WATCH: Intense Video Captures Arvada Police Shootout with Car Theft Suspect

A shocking video from a resident’s security camera shows a tense shootout between Arvada police officers and a car theft suspect early Sunday morning. The incident, which took place around 3:40 a.m. in an alley west of Kipling Parkway, has left the community shaken.

Arvada police reported that officers fired on a man sitting inside a stolen vehicle after he refused to exit and then opened fire on the officers. In response, police returned fire, striking the suspect. The dramatic footage, shared with Scripps News Denver, captures the sound of gunshots and the reactions of the resident filming the scene from inside their home.

Residents of the usually quiet neighborhood expressed shock at the violent confrontation. “It’s usually peaceful here. Nothing like this happens,” said Oz Garcia, a nearby resident. He described waking up to the sounds of gunfire, screaming, and police yelling, as officers attempted to get the suspect to exit the vehicle.

The suspect was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, while fortunately, no officers were injured in the exchange. However, three officers were placed on administrative leave, as per departmental policy. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
