Aurora Teens Accused Of Violent RTD Station Attacks Caught On Camera
Two 17-year-olds were arrested after a violent series of assaults at an RTD station in Aurora that was captured on surveillance video, according to the Aurora Police Department. Officers responded to the RTD Florida Station near East Florida Avenue and South I-225 around 11 p.m. on May 20 after witnesses reported a fight involving a gun and multiple victims being attacked.
Investigators said the video shows one teenager confronting a man before a second teen joined in, with the pair allegedly punching and assaulting the victim while demanding items from his pockets. Police said the suspects also approached and attacked several other people near the station and were seen tucking handguns into their waistbands during at least one of the incidents.
Officers arrived while the teens were allegedly attempting to drag one victim into the roadway and quickly detained both suspects. Police said they are still trying to locate one of the victims seen in the surveillance footage to make sure they are safe.
According to investigators, both teens now face multiple charges including robbery, assault, criminal attempt, and possession of a handgun by a juvenile. One of the firearms involved is believed to have been stolen from Tennessee. Aurora Police also said both suspects had recent prior arrests, including robbery, assault, and harassment cases within the past month.
Anyone with information about the incident or the unidentified victim is encouraged to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers. Anonymous tips may qualify for a reward of up to $2,000.
