Wienerschnitzel Coming to Colorado Walmart? Hot Dogs Are Back in Aisle One
Good news for hot dog lovers—Wienerschnitzel is expanding, and Colorado is on the list. The iconic chain, known for its fast, fun hot dogs, corn dogs, and chili cheese fries, has announced plans to open new franchise locations inside select Walmarts across the country by fall 2025. Among the six planned locations nationwide, Colorado Springs will get one of them—giving Colorado its fourth Wienerschnitzel, joining existing spots in Fountain, Grand Junction, and Colorado Springs.
While this expansion has fans excited, some in Northern Colorado are feeling left out. Fort Collins residents, in particular, are bummed to be skipped over again when it comes to new food options. Longtime locals may remember the Der Wienerschnitzel that used to sit along College Avenue—it closed years ago, and nothing’s replaced it since.
The partnership between Wienerschnitzel and Walmart brings back memories of the days when Burger King and Subway were regular features at the front of stores. That trend faded out, but with families frequenting Walmart for shopping trips, a quick-stop hot dog stand could bring the same convenience and affordability that makes Costco’s food court a fan favorite.
Time will tell if this nostalgic revival gains traction, but for now, it’s safe to say that Wienerschnitzel in Walmart has a lot of people in Colorado hungry for more.
