A 40-year-old man was arrested over the weekend after causing a dangerous scene on Highway 85 by driving the wrong way and leading deputies on a chase, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident began when a deputy spotted the vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes between Highlands Ranch Parkway and Titan Road. The driver was moving at a high rate of speed, directly into oncoming traffic. The deputy quickly crossed the median, activated emergency lights, and notified dispatch of the threat.

Despite the flashing lights and sirens, the suspect failed to stop. He briefly slowed at a red light near Highlands Ranch Parkway before running the light and accelerating again. The chase continued with the driver weaving through traffic at varying speeds, even dropping to 30 mph at one point before attempting to flee again.

The pursuit finally ended near Brandon Drive, where the suspect was taken into custody without further incident. He now faces charges including DUI, reckless driving, misdemeanor eluding, and a red light violation.

Authorities say this incident is a stark reminder of the dangers of impaired driving and the importance of staying alert on the roads.
