Today’s @COParksWildlife #wildlife #rescue story is of a bear that wedged itself deep under a porch near #ColoradoSprings Sunday. CPW Officer Corey Adler avoided handling the bear. Hazing it saved it a critical “strike” under CPW policy. Listen as he talks to the bear throughout. pic.twitter.com/AOj3mAJ3S8

This week in the Colorado Springs area, a wildlife officer went to a home to evict an unwanted guest. Under the family’s front porch hid a bear.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife Southeast Region said Officer Corey Adler responded to the home for a report of a bear underneath the home’s front porch.

Adler used paintballs and a Taser to coax the bear out into the open. When the bear successfully emerged, he then chased it away from the area.

“Hazing it saved it a critical ‘strike’ under CPW policy,” CPW tweeted.

According to CPW, the strike would have given the bear an ear tag. If the bear gets in trouble in the future, the tag would identify the bear and he would then be euthanized for being a trouble-maker.

Seems to me the bear was just chilling under the porch. Harmless, yet a scary thing to see under your porch. I don’t blame anyone for getting freaked out, but the act of the wildlife officer is commendable. He saved the bear and brought peace to a Colorado family all in one day.

I guess that is all in a day’s work for a wildlife officer here in Colorado.
