Just in time for Amazon’s Prime Early Access Days, a new report shows that Denver and surrounding communities are the biggest hotspot for porch pirates in the Country.    Last year, we had 1,030 reported packages stolen before they could make it home.  This year we’re already at 940, with some of the biggest internet shopping days ahead of us.  Last year we came in second, just behind San Francisco.   Nationwide, about 210 Million Packages went missing last year.

How can you avoid getting packages stolen?  If possible, ship it to your work.  You can’t be a victim of Porch Piracy if it never makes it to the Porch.  If that’s not an option, there are alternative pick up locations for most delivery services.  Amazon has lockers around town, and the other major shippers like FedEx can make arrangements to drop them off at other locations.  You can also invest in some technology, although 58% of people in this study say they had a camera, and it didn’t deter the deck degenerates.  If you are ordering something that may come in a box with the company logo on it, you may want to ask for gift shipping.  They will ship it in a non marked box, which may keep thieves from eyeing a brand they are looking for.  Finally, use the tracking numbers, and see where your packages are.  If you see something valuable arriving and you’re not home, ask a neighbor to hold it for you.
