New Grocery Competitor Coming to Colorado: Gordon Food Service Stores Set to Open

Colorado is about to welcome a new player in the grocery game—one that’s ready to compete with Costco and other big-box retailers.

Gordon Food Service Store Expanding to Colorado

Gordon Food Service, a family-owned company founded in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 1897, started as an egg and butter delivery service before evolving into a major supplier for restaurants and businesses. In 1979, the company opened its first public retail stores, and today, there are over 175 locations, primarily in the eastern U.S.

Where Will Gordon Food Service Stores Be in Colorado?

By the end of 2025, at least three locations are expected to open:
✅ Colorado Springs (confirmed with a $5 million project permit)
✅ Thornton (potentially taking over a former Kmart)
✅ Fort Collins (likely replacing a closed Bed Bath & Beyond)

What to Expect?

Gordon Food Service Stores offer bulk-sized products and wide aisles with towering shelves, giving off a Costco-like feel—but no membership required. With a focus on restaurant-quality food, household essentials, and wholesale pricing, these new stores could shake up Colorado’s grocery market.

Ready to Shop?

While official opening dates haven’t been announced, expect Gordon Food Service Stores to change the way Coloradans stock up on groceries. Would you give it a try?
