If you’ve been going to Nuggets games, Avalanche games or concerts at Ball Arena for years, the building is about to look and feel a whole lot different.

Kroenke Sports & Entertainment has announced a $135 million renovation of Ball Arena, the venue that originally opened as the Pepsi Center in 1999. The biggest visual change will come on the downtown-facing east side, where plans call for a massive expanded atrium with a new glass façade.

Inside, fans will see wider entrances and concourses, new escalators, an updated team store, faster concession technology and three new premium clubs. Outside the new atrium, plans also include a gathering space where fans can hang out before and after games and events. The work will happen in phases, with completion expected in time for the 2028-29 Nuggets and Avalanche seasons.

And the arena itself is only part of a much bigger change coming to this section of downtown. KSE plans to redevelop its surrounding 55-acre property with housing, restaurants, shopping, a hotel, entertainment space, offices and a central park. Plans also include the proposed Wynkoop Crossing pedestrian bridge over Speer Boulevard, creating a more direct connection between downtown and the Ball Arena district.

Ball Arena has been part of Denver for more than 25 years and has hosted everything from championship celebrations to some of the biggest concerts to come through Colorado. Now, one of downtown Denver’s most familiar buildings is getting its biggest makeover yet.
