Way back in 2020, the voters of Denver decided we should give an extra Quarter in taxes for every hundred dollars we spend, and give that money to the Climate Protection Fund.  Now, they want to give some of that money back to us in order to get their goals accomplished.  If you’ve ever thought of putting Solar on the roof, or getting an E-Bike, now may be the time.  The City is going to unveil plans on Friday that will include some of the following rebates to people living in Denver:

$400 towards an E-Bike

People who make short trips with an E-bike can save thousands of dollars a year in energy costs.  Denver is offering all residents the base $400/Bike, and low income families can get up to $1200 each.  E-Cargo Bikes can score you an additional $500 as well.  Bikes must be purchased at participating bike shops.  E-bikes must meet the following criteria:

  • The electric motor must be 750 watts or less and be capable of propelling the cycle no faster than 20 mph on level ground without pedaling.
  • The vehicle must be equipped with a mechanism that either (a) allows the driver to turn the motor on and off, or (b) prevents the motor from turning on or engaging before the e-bike attains a speed of 3 km/h.
  • The motor must disengage when the operator (a) stops pedaling, or (b) releases the accelerator or (c) applies a brake.
  • The motor cannot be gas-powered.
  • The motor must be capable of being propelled by muscular power using the pedals, but it is not necessary to always be pedaling.

$3,200 towards a new water heater

If you are looking to replace your hot water heater, this is a good chance to upgrade to a Smart Water Heater, that gets rid of natural gas, and connects your equipment to the internet.  If that’s too futuristic for you, you can get $1,400 for a non-online version.  There are also additional things the city will help with, like $4,000 towards Solar Panels, $2,700 towards a Battery System, and another $2,000 towards a new Service Panel if yours is too old to handle all this new power coming through.  There are some restrictions; They will only cover up to 80% of the cost, so you will have to pay something.  These rebates are only for existing homes, so you can’t apply it towards new construction.  You will need to talk to your Contractor about claiming these deals.  Homeowners themselves cannot claim them.

$1,000 to upgrade your EV Car Charger.

There is $1,000 available if you are looking to get an upgraded EV Car Charger in your house.  Between the push for Electric Vehicles, and the number of Electric Cars already on the road, this would increase the value of a house to any prospective buyer.  Xcel Energy also offers rebates for chargers, so you may be able to stack the savings.  There are even more rebates for people with those trucks that say they can power the house in case of a disaster.

Basically, if you re looking to get something electric for your house, there are some deals on the way.  All these programs are kicking off on April 22nd to coincide with Earth Day.
