The Denver Police Department is looking for new ways to handle crowds downtown, after they (The Denver Police) shot 6 people a few weeks back.  The latest concept is to ban food trucks from the area, so people won’t want to linger there after the bars get out.   This will impact areas around Coors Field on Thursday, Friday and Saturday Nights.

As you can imagine, the food truck owners are not happy about this.  Truck owners must get conditional city permits to operate downtown, and now the city won’t issue permits for that part of town.  Food Truck owners have to get permits further away from crowds, which impacts their incomes.  This past week, Food Truck owners talked to City Council about reversing that ban, but don’t expect any action to take effect for this weekend.

The Denver Police Department is working on other methods of safety for LoDo on the weekends, like closing off roads, increasing DUI patrols, and adding portable lighting.  But getting a Hot Dog before heading home is not of those options.
