Starting September 1, drivers who weave across the solid white lines and break express lane rules on certain highways in Colorado will receive a warning. However, after a 30-day grace period, drivers who violate the law will be fined $75, which doubles to $150 if not paid within 20 days.

The crackdown is being implemented by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) in an effort to improve safety on the state’s highways. Solid white lines are used to designate the boundaries between lanes, and crossing them can be dangerous, as it can lead to head-on collisions. Additionally, weaving in and out of express lanes can cause traffic congestion and make it difficult for emergency vehicles to pass.

The new enforcement measures will be implemented using roadway technology that tracks drivers’ movements. This technology was first tested in the I-70 Mountain Express Lane corridor earlier this summer, where over 13,000 drivers were caught violating the rules in the first two months.

CDOT plans to activate the technology on all Colorado express lanes, including the Central 70 express lanes and the I-25 South Gap express lanes. The agency is also considering expanding the technology to other highways in the future.

“We want to make sure that our highways are safe for everyone,” said Tim Hoover, a CDOT spokesman. “These new enforcement measures will help us to do that by deterring drivers from engaging in unsafe behavior.”

The crackdown on drivers who weave across solid white lines is the latest effort by CDOT to improve safety on Colorado’s highways. In recent years, the agency has also implemented a number of other measures, such as increasing the speed limit on some highways and expanding the use of automated speed enforcement cameras.

CDOT is urging drivers to obey the rules of the road and help to make Colorado’s highways safer for everyone.

Here are some tips for staying safe on Colorado highways:

Obey the speed limit.
Don’t drink and drive.
Don’t text and drive.
Be aware of your surroundings.
Use your turn signals.
Don’t weave in and out of traffic.
Be patient and courteous to other drivers.
By following these tips, you can help to make Colorado’s highways a safer place for everyone.
