At Denver International Airport, officials are encouraging both airport employees and members of the public to support TSA workers by donating grocery store or gas gift cards in smaller denominations such as $10 or $20. The donations are meant to help screeners cover everyday expenses like food and fuel while they continue performing their duties during the shutdown.
Despite the lack of pay, TSA employees are still required to work because their jobs are considered essential for maintaining airport security.
