Broncos Cut Son of Two-Time Super Bowl Champion Just Four Days After Signing Him
The Denver Broncos have started trimming their roster, and one of the first players out the door had barely enough time to unpack.
Denver waived pass rusher Ron Stone Jr. just four days after signing him ahead of the team’s preseason finale against the Minnesota Vikings.
Stone was one of several late additions brought in to provide extra depth and help reduce the workload on players the Broncos wanted to protect heading into the regular season. Head coach Sean Payton explained that adding bodies was necessary to avoid putting too much stress on the remaining players during the final preseason game.
Stone ultimately played 19 snaps against Minnesota before being waived as Denver began making its roster cuts.
The 26-year-old pass rusher also happens to come from an impressive football family.
His father, Ron Stone Sr., spent more than a decade as an NFL offensive lineman and won two Super Bowl championships during his career. The elder Stone was also a two-time Pro Bowl selection and earned All-Pro honors three times while playing in the league from 1993 through 2005.
Ron Stone Jr. has been working to carve out his own professional football career.
Before arriving in Denver, he played for the UFL’s Columbus Aviators, where he recorded 5.5 sacks this spring. He previously spent the 2025 season with the Michigan Panthers and finished with four sacks in nine games.
His brief Broncos stint may not necessarily be the end of his time in Denver.
Stone will now go through the NFL waiver process. If no other team claims him, he could potentially become an option for the Broncos’ practice squad as Denver finalizes its roster for the season.
For now, though, Stone’s first stint as a Bronco lasted just four days.
