Once again the scooters littering the streets of Denver are at the crux of an accident. This time though, the scooter rider lost their life. The Denver Police Department is investigating a death that occurred during the early morning hours on Tuesday.

The person was riding a scooter when they reportedly struck a parked vehicle before 2:46 a.m. They were severely injured by the accident and later succumbed to their injuries.

It is undetermined if the deceased was operating a rented scooter or a personally owned one. An investigation into the details of the incident is on-going.

While it is unclear what type of scooter was a part of the incident, most of us tend to think of the rentable battery-powered scooters that litter the sidewalks and parking lots in the metro area.

If any of you have been downtown or any other heavily visited area on a weekend night, you can probably recall a reckless driver or near crash on these things. Not to mention almost tripping on them when they block walkways and staircases. It is not recommended to ride these things while intoxicated, yet that is exactly what is happening around local bars everywhere.

I think people misunderstand that these scooters still operate at higher speeds and are still dangerous. Not to mention most everyone is riding without a helmet. Now, no details have been released about the accident mentioned in this article. But someone lost their life on one of these “convenience” vehicles and it is incredibly sad. It’s important to remember to practice safety when riding a scooter. Just think about your own safety and that of others.

Don’t be reckless and please, I beg of you; do not just leave them in the walkways and streets when you are done with them. You’d think it would be common sense to put your toys away, but apparently Denver- it’s not.
