Nissan is reusing the batteries from old Leaf electric vehicles to make portable power sources.

The company has partnered with 4R Energy Corporation to develop a new technology that can extract and reuse up to 95% of the materials in Nissan Leaf batteries reports ABC. The recycled batteries will be used to create new portable power sources that can be used for a variety of purposes, including home backup power, disaster relief, and off-grid applications.

Nissan’s initiative to reuse Leaf batteries is part of the company’s commitment to sustainability. The company has set a goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

Benefits of Reusing Nissan Leaf Batteries

  • Reduces environmental impact: Recycling Nissan Leaf batteries helps to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfills. It also helps to conserve natural resources.
  • Extends the life of Nissan Leaf batteries: Nissan Leaf batteries typically have a lifespan of 8-10 years. However, they can still be used for other purposes after they are no longer suitable for use in an electric vehicle.
  • Creates new jobs: Nissan’s partnership with 4R Energy Corporation is creating new jobs in the battery recycling industry.

Nissan’s initiative to reuse Leaf batteries is a positive step for the environment and for the economy. The company’s new portable power sources will provide a valuable resource for homes, businesses, and communities.
