In recent news, a father’s life changed within minutes after witnessing his son be mauled to death by a tiger shark.
The tragedy occurred at the Red Sea resorts when a father and his 23-year-old son took a relaxing trip exploring Egyptian waters. A father-and-son bonding trip turned tragic in seconds as the father was helpless, watching a shark attack his son.
In a video posted to social media, you can hear the son scream”papa” while a shark circled him.
“We went to the beach to relax,” Yury Popov, a Russian national, told the Telegram news outlet 112. “My son was attacked by a shark. It all happened in seconds.”
The attack only took 20 seconds and what Popov describes as what was supposed to be a “safe beach.”
“What kind of help can you give? This meat grinder happened in 20 seconds. He was just dragged under the water,” Popov said.
The tiger shark has been captured and is being helped under supervision as Egyptian authorities claim the attack was of “abnormal behavior.” While shark attacks in this area are rare, AP News reports “there were two deadly shark attacks in Hurghada last year: a Romanian woman and an Austrian woman were killed within days of each other near the area.”
Authorities have closed off the stretch of coastline until Sunday.
