Family of Brighton Hit-and-Run Victim Seeks Public’s Help to Find Suspect

On the evening of Friday, Oct. 4, 22-year-old Jusiah Suarez was walking along County Road 27 near County Road 2 1/2 in Brighton when tragedy struck.

“We think he was walking from work down into town to go eat,” said his sister, Joie Suarez. “He didn’t make it there.”

According to Brighton Police, Jusiah was hit by a car that fled the scene. A second driver, who didn’t see him lying in the road, also struck him but remained on site and called the police for help. Emergency responders arrived around 7:15 p.m., and Jusiah was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries.

Joie received the devastating news late that night. “I knew something was wrong,” she recalled. “In the background, all I hear is my mom just screaming and crying. I’ve never heard her like that before.”

Jusiah remains in critical condition at CU Anschutz Medical Campus. The family has set up a GoFundMe to assist with his growing medical expenses as they wait for him to recover.

In the meantime, the family and police are asking for the public’s help in finding the first driver who fled the scene. The suspect’s vehicle is believed to be a 2000 Honda Civic, possibly black, with front-end damage and a missing driver’s side mirror. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Brighton Police Department tip line at 303-655-8740.

“I don’t want anyone to have to be in this kind of situation,” Joie said.
