Will Colorado’s Big Lots Stores Be Affected by Closures?

It seems like an increasing number of businesses across Colorado have been closing their doors recently. From Boulder’s iconic Dark Horse likely facing demolition to Denver’s music venue Herman’s Hideaway closing, and the historic jazz club El Chapultepec also being on the brink of demolition, the trend is troubling.

However, it’s not just local favorites that are shutting down; national chains with several locations in Colorado are also struggling. Recently, Hooters announced the closure of numerous franchises nationwide, and now Big Lots appears to be facing similar challenges. The big question is: Will Colorado be affected by these closures?

The Situation with Big Lots

Big Lots is a well-known chain of discount stores, offering prices that fall somewhere between those at Walmart and Dollar Tree. Unfortunately, the company has experienced significant financial losses in recent years, prompting them to plan the closure of a number of stores across the country.

Specifically, Big Lots is expected to close an estimated 35 to 40 locations between now and 2025. As of now, the company has not provided specific details about which stores will be affected. However, with over 1,300 locations nationwide, including 14 in Colorado, there is concern about potential closures in the state.

Colorado Locations at Risk?

The 14 Big Lots stores in Colorado are located in cities such as Grand Junction, Aurora, Brighton, Greeley, Lakewood, Littleton, Longmont, Pueblo, Westminster, Wheat Ridge, and Colorado Springs. While Colorado’s stores represent a small fraction of the total number of Big Lots locations, whether or not they will be affected by the upcoming closures remains uncertain.

Conclusion

As Big Lots continues to navigate financial challenges, the potential for store closures looms. While it’s not yet clear if Colorado will see any of its Big Lots locations shut down, the possibility is certainly there. For now, customers and employees in Colorado can only wait and see how the situation unfolds.
