Our IM FROM DENVER Family Trip to Christmas at Gaylord Rockies

As Producer WIGNZ with the IM FROM DENVER team, I sometimes get to bring my son, Little Wig, along for the experiences we cover. So when Gaylord Rockies invites us to experience Christmas at Gaylord Rockies, we turn it into a father–son weekend. We walk into the resort and Christmas is already everywhere. Lights, giant displays, photo ops, kids running around with that holiday energy. Little Wig is locked in immediately.

Our first stop is ICE! featuring Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The whole walkthrough sits at nine degrees and is carved from more than two million pounds of ice by 40 master artisans from Harbin, China. Massive scenes from the story fill every corner, and the two-story ice slides become our go-to spot. We ride them more times than I’m willing to admit.

From there, the rest of Christmas at Gaylord Rockies unfolds fast. We hit Candy Cane Mountain Snow Tubing, try the Gumdrop Gliders Ice Puck Challenge, explore the Gingerbread Mountain Cabin, and jump into Elf Training Academy and Mrs. Claus’ Christmas Traditions. Everything is inside, close together, and easy to enjoy without planning every minute.

What I appreciate most is how simple it all feels. It gives us space for the small moments: Little Wig staring at the displays, asking how the ice sculptures are made, grabbing my phone for one more picture. Those end up being my favorite parts of the trip.

Gaylord Rockies

By the time we head out, he’s already asking when we’re coming back and wondering out loud if next year’s ICE! theme will be Home Alone. That pretty much tells me everything I need to know.

If you want a holiday experience that actually delivers, Christmas at Gaylord Rockies does exactly that.
