It’s always sad news to hear about a favorite restaurant closing down, especially when it’s been around for as long as 40 years. This is the case with the original Quiznos restaurant on North Grant Street in Denver, Colorado, which opened in 1981. However, the closure is not due to business failure but to non-payment of taxes.

According to notices posted on the restaurant’s front door, the owner of the Quiznos restaurant is behind on $12,341 in sales taxes and another $812 in occupational privilege tax. Although the owner is listed as Dominik Mendoza, who owns several Quiznos locations under CF Lifestyles Investments LLC, the closure is temporary.

A Quiznos spokesperson said in a recent statement that “the restaurant has closed temporarily while ownership is transitioned to a new franchisee.” They also added that “as the original Quiznos shop, the location holds a special place in the brand’s story and is a beloved community staple. We look forward to having the location reopened soon and welcoming back guests.”

This news may be a relief to loyal Quiznos fans who have enjoyed sandwiches and other treats at the original location for many years. The restaurant’s street sign still notes “The first location … 1981,” serving as a reminder of its historical significance. It’s important to note that the closure is separate from the overall financial health of the Quiznos brand, which still has many locations worldwide.

While it’s unfortunate that the original Quiznos restaurant had to close temporarily due to non-payment of taxes, it’s good to know that there is a plan to reopen and continue serving the community soon. This reminds us of the importance of upholding business responsibilities, such as paying taxes, to ensure the health and longevity of beloved establishments in our communities. We look forward to the day when the original Quiznos restaurant on North Grant Street in Denver reopens its doors and welcomes back its loyal customers.
