Somewhere between construction paper and Cartman, two Colorado college friends made television history. Now their work is heading into a Denver museum. South Park: Handmade in Colorado opens December 6, 2026, at the Colorado History Museum.
Trey Parker and Matt Stone started making movies together at CU Boulder, drawing inspiration from people and places around them. With South Park approaching its 30th anniversary in 2027, the exhibit traces those local beginnings.
History Colorado’s partnership with South Park Digital Studios means access to never-before-shown items, including original pilot cutouts, scripts and artwork. There are also materials from Bigger, Longer & Uncut, Team America puppets, The Book of Mormon costumes and the dresses the creators wore to the 2000 Oscars. That’s quite a museum wardrobe.
The story circles back to Colorado through their Red Rocks anniversary concerts and restoration of Casa Bonita, connecting the worldwide success to places locals know personally.
A timed-entry reservation is required. The exhibit is included with museum admission, which is free for History Colorado members and visitors 18 and younger. Book tickets and reserve your entry time here.
